In 1947, India was granted independence. But the country was broken into two satets. India and Pakistan and fighting between Hindus and Muslims began. But Gandhi belived in a India where Hindus and Muslims could live together in peace.
On Janury 13, 1948, at the age of 78, Gandhi began a fast, not eating anything for days, whit the purpose of stoping the war. Arter during five days, the opposing learders said they would stop the fighing and Gandhi broke his fast and started eating again.
Sadly, twelve days later Gandhi was assassinated by Hindus fanatics who sthongly apposed his vision an of India for both hindus and muslims. The insian people called Gandhi " Mahatma" meaning "Great sould".
Albert Schweitzer.
Albert Schweitzer was born in Alsace, Germany, which is now a part Franc. By the time he was 21, Schweitzer had decided an the course for his life.
For nine years he would dedicate himself to the study of science, music, and religion. The he would devote the reset of his life to serving humanity direct, before he was 30, expert an the life and works of Johann Sebastian beach.
In 1904. Schweitzer was inspired to help sick people in the world, so he studied medicine at the university of Strasbourg. He founded a hospital in French Equatorial African 1913. Over the years, he built large hospital that served the nobel prize for peace.
He used his $33,000 Nobel to expand the hospital and to build a pleace to take care of people who had the terrible disease of leprosy.
Schweitzer based his personal philosophy an a love and respect for life and an a deep commit ment to serve humanity throught thought and action.
